sillygirl Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 hi any ideas please i have a 1998 galaxy 2.0 and for the last few weeks it has been jumping out of gear, then 2 days ago it was very hard to get into gear and i had to keep puhing the clutch to get it to go. then yesterday the clutch was sort of airy fairy and went to the floor in a puff of air, from then on i could not get into any gear at all - when i turned the engine off, it went through the gears no problem, but engine on nothing - my neighbour said its the clutch slave cylinder and stuff about air bleeding, so i bout one and he changed it for me today, but nothing is different, he said he has had 3 attempts at bleeding the air, but its still exactly the same. please point me in the right direction Quote
srafferty Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 If you try to start the car in gear does it jump? - is the gear engaged? Quote
sillygirl Posted May 19, 2009 Author Report Posted May 19, 2009 If you try to start the car in gear does it jump? - is the gear engaged? no it does not jump, if i take my foot off the brake it pulls away ???? and i can go along but only in the gear i put it in, i have been out and tried this in 2nd gear, when i stop the engine cuts out, so i turned it off fully, put it in 2nd and started up and off i went ???? srafferty Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Therefore gearbox - OK. Has you chum checked the clutch cable? If your clutch was gone You most likely would have noticed it slipping. Quote

If your clutch was gone You most likely would have noticed it slipping. yes he checked it all, cable, fluids etc, even seals on the other cylinder thing for leaks (sorry) that why he thought it was clutch slave but when he put it all back together, he said he spent ages bleeding it, and thought all would be clear, but still exactly the same Quote
seatkid Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 (edited) There is no clutch cable, its hydraulically operated. You have a clutch problem, its likely you need a new clutch. It could also possibly be the clutch master cylinder and I'm not sure about the jumping out gear thing, although failing clutches can sometimes give weird symptoms e.g. when the pressure plate actuator springs break or bend. Bigjeeze Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 You could re check the Master cylinder is bled properly - It is not a standard type it needs a vacuum type to suck the fluid in rather than the pressure type. That may be a n issue - but it does sound like the box will have to come off if no joy with that. Quote
